Role Overview

We are now seeking an EHS Advisor to support our UK operations.

Based out of London, this role will provide health and safety support across a range of UK projects, working closely with project teams, site management, subcontractors and senior operational stakeholders.

This is a visible, site-facing role suited to someone who is comfortable engaging with teams on live construction projects. You will carry out inspections, support safe systems of work, review documentation, advise on risk, investigate incidents and help ensure that health and safety standards are consistently applied across our UK project portfolio.

The role will suit someone with experience in construction, M&E, building services, infrastructure or similar project environments who is confident working with site teams and influencing safe behaviours in a practical, constructive way.

Key Responsibilities

As EHS Advisor, you will:

  • Support the implementation of Designer Group’s health, safety & environmental policies, procedures and standards across UK projects.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety walks.
  • Identify risks, unsafe behaviours or non-compliance and work with site teams to close out actions.
  • Support project teams with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and site inductions, as required.
  • Monitor PPE compliance, housekeeping, access/egress, plant, lifting operations and general site safety standards.
  • Support incident, accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring reports are completed accurately and actions are followed through.
  • Monitor the maintenance of health and safety records, inspection reports, permits, registers and site documentation.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills and response planning.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction managers, subcontractors and client representatives on health and safety matters.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with client and principal contractor EHS representatives, acting as the primary point of contact for health, safety and environmental matters on assigned projects.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across projects, encouraging ownership and accountability at site level.
  • Advise management on opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
  • Monitor environmental performance across projects, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement in areas such as waste management and sustainability.
  • Support compliance with UK health and safety legislation, client requirements and Designer Group standards.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who can bring a practical, site-led approach to health and safety.

You should have:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety / EHS Advisor or similar role.
  • Previous experience within construction, mechanical and electrical, building services, infrastructure or industrial project environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
  • Confidence reviewing RAMS, permits, lifting plans and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence site teams positively.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate safety records and reports.
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites across the UK as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold:

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential).
  • NEBOSH Environmental / IEMA Environmental Certificate or equivalent environmental qualification (desirable).
  • IOSH Membership or working towards membership (desirable).
  • CSCS Card or equivalent site safety skill card (essential).
  • Full UK Driving Licence due to the multi-site nature of the role (desirable).

Why Join Designer Group?

This is an opportunity to join a growing international engineering business with a strong project pipeline and a clear commitment to safe delivery.

You will be joining a team where health and safety has real visibility, where your input will directly influence site standards, and where you will work on technically interesting M&E projects across the UK.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on major M&E, data centre, industrial, infrastructure, energy and life sciences projects.
  • Career progression within a growing international engineering business.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • A collaborative, safety-focused culture.
  • Exposure to high-profile projects for leading multinational clients.
  • The opportunity to help shape and enhance health, safety and environmental performance across multiple project environments.
