Director of Clinical Operations, Strategy, and Innovation.

FULL TIMEREMOTELEADERSHIP

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Clinical Operations, Strategy, and Innovation based in the United States.

We are seeking a strategic and highly experienced Director of Clinical Operations, Strategy, and Innovation to drive operational excellence and transform healthcare delivery at scale. In this high-impact leadership role, you will design and implement organization-wide strategies that improve clinical outcomes, streamline care coordination, and enhance the overall member experience. Working across clinical, product, technology, and frontline teams, you will turn complex challenges into scalable solutions and measurable results. You will combine advanced analytical thinking, operational architecture, and hands-on execution to accelerate innovation and improve performance. The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence strategic decisions in a fast-paced, collaborative healthcare environment. You will also help build and scale innovative clinical programs that make quality care more accessible, efficient, and responsive to members' needs.

Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Operational Architecture: Design and implement organization-wide strategies, operational frameworks, and cross-functional workflows that improve clinical performance and support key business and healthcare outcome metrics.
  • Care Coordination Optimization: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline care coordination processes, including improving access to laboratory services, preventive screenings, and other essential clinical interventions.
  • Member Engagement and Experience: Develop strategies to strengthen member engagement across clinical services and communication channels, ensuring members can access appropriate care and support when they need it.
  • Clinical Encounter Optimization: Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of member interactions by evaluating existing processes, identifying performance gaps, and implementing high-impact operational improvements.
  • Program Development and Scalability: Build, expand, and optimize cross-channel clinical programs that deliver accessible, consistent, and high-quality care to a diverse member population.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with clinical, product, technology, and frontline teams to develop initiatives, oversee pilot programs, and drive successful implementation and organization-wide adoption.
  • Data Analysis and Performance Management: Analyze operational variability, identify key performance drivers, develop quantitative decision-making frameworks, and use probabilistic models to distinguish meaningful insights from data noise.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Lead rapid-cycle experimentation, evaluate new approaches, and translate findings into practical improvements that enhance operational efficiency and clinical outcomes.
  • Operational Execution: Bridge long-term strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving, addressing immediate operational challenges while developing sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • Servant Leadership and Team Enablement: Lead directly and through influence, prioritizing the needs of frontline clinicians, removing operational barriers, and ensuring teams have the resources and workflows needed to succeed.
  • Technology and Process Innovation: Explore and leverage modern technologies, including AI-powered tools and large language models, to simplify workflows, improve productivity, and support more effective clinical operations.
  • Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of experience in high-ownership operational leadership roles within complex, fast-paced, or regulated environments, such as healthcare operations, technology operations, marketplace operations, or strategy and operations.
  • Proven experience designing, mapping, optimizing, and scaling complex cross-functional processes that directly influence business performance and operational outcomes.
  • Strong strategic and systems-thinking capabilities, with the ability to understand interconnected operational challenges and develop effective organization-wide solutions.
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, including experience building models, evaluating experiments using probabilistic methods, interpreting performance data, and distinguishing meaningful trends from statistical noise.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate high-level strategic objectives into practical execution plans, balancing long-term transformation initiatives with immediate operational problem-solving.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders across different teams and organizational levels, even without direct reporting relationships.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a frontline-first mindset and the ability to empower teams, remove obstacles, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly when navigating complex challenges, incomplete information, and rapidly changing priorities.
  • High degree of autonomy, adaptability, and ownership, with a demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and drive initiatives through to completion.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex operational and analytical concepts clearly and align diverse stakeholders around shared objectives.
  • Additional qualifications that will set you apart:

  • Experience working in healthcare operations or value-based care environments, although this is not required.
  • Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex operational domains, particularly those involving multiple stakeholders, processes, and performance indicators.
  • Practical curiosity about emerging technologies and digital tools, including experience using large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or AI-powered solutions to optimize everyday workflows.
  • Experience leading rapid experimentation and implementing scalable solutions in organizations undergoing significant growth or transformation.
  • A growth-oriented mindset, with enthusiasm for innovation, continuous learning, and improving healthcare delivery.
  • Benefits:

  • Annual base salary: $182,000–$247,000, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, education, certifications, specialized skills, and geographical location.
  • Comprehensive healthcare: Employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, with low or no employee premiums.
  • Generous paid time off: Flexible paid leave to support personal needs and work-life balance.
  • Monthly connectivity stipend: $100 monthly allowance for mobile phone or internet expenses.
  • Equity compensation: Stock options available to all employees, providing an opportunity to share in the organization's long-term success.
  • Retirement savings: Access to a 401(k) retirement savings program.
  • Parental leave: Paid parental leave benefits to support employees and their families.
  • Total rewards package: Additional employee benefits, wellbeing resources, and support programs.
