Engineering Manager.

FULL TIMEREMOTELEADERSHIPENGINEERING

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager based in the United States.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a growing engineering team responsible for building and improving the technology that powers a next-generation digital healthcare experience. You will take ownership of team strategy, people management, technical delivery, and operational execution, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and consistently against ambitious business objectives. Working closely with Product Managers, engineering leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will translate priorities into actionable plans and help remove obstacles to execution. You will also play a key role in developing engineers, strengthening team performance, and establishing scalable processes as the organization expands. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will combine technical understanding with strategic thinking and a strong people-first management approach. Your work will directly contribute to improving internal operations and helping more patients access timely, high-quality dermatological care.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage the Operations Experience engineering team, including technical leads, software engineers, and external contractors, taking ownership of team performance, development, and overall effectiveness.
  • Establish regular one-on-one meetings, provide constructive and direct feedback, manage performance challenges, and create individual growth plans to support each team member's professional development.
  • Take full ownership of engineering planning, delivery, resource allocation, and execution, ensuring that team priorities remain aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies, roadmap planning, and technical design sessions to ensure effective coordination and predictable delivery of operational features.
  • Monitor engineering performance through key delivery metrics, including cycle time, throughput, and deployment frequency, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Drive measurable improvements in engineering productivity, targeting at least a 20% improvement in two key delivery metrics within the first six months while maintaining quarterly roadmap commitments.
  • Identify delivery risks, resource constraints, dependencies, and technical trade-offs early, communicating challenges proactively and recommending practical solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and senior Product and Engineering leaders to coordinate priorities and ensure successful cross-functional execution.
  • Maintain technical oversight of projects, evaluating architectural decisions, engineering quality, and implementation approaches without becoming a bottleneck for the development team.
  • Develop a long-term vision for the team's evolution through 2027, including project capacity planning, organizational structure, headcount requirements, and recruitment strategy.
  • Build a comprehensive inventory of upcoming operational projects and assess the engineering resources required to deliver them successfully.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, continuous learning, and sustainable engineering practices.
  • Balance hands-on technical involvement with leadership responsibilities, contributing directly to development activities when needed.
  • Requirements:

  • Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams, with 3+ years of direct engineering management experience considered a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop engineers across different seniority levels and employment arrangements, including technical leads, full-time employees, and contractors.
  • Strong people management skills, including experience delivering direct feedback, addressing underperformance, managing difficult conversations, and supporting professional growth.
  • Proven ownership of engineering delivery, with the ability to translate business priorities into realistic execution plans and ensure consistent, predictable outcomes.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working effectively alongside Product Managers, engineering leaders, and stakeholders across multiple business functions.
  • Solid technical knowledge and the ability to understand software architecture, evaluate technical trade-offs, maintain engineering quality standards, and earn the trust of experienced engineers.
  • Experience managing competing priorities, identifying resource constraints, and making informed decisions about what a team can realistically deliver.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear updates, challenge decisions constructively, and communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior leadership.
  • A proactive leadership style, with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with modern technology stacks, particularly React, Node.js, AWS, and SQL, is preferred.
  • A player-coach mindset, with a willingness to remain technically involved and contribute to coding activities when necessary.
  • Ability to build structured team development plans, support career progression, and create an environment where engineers can perform at their best.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills, with the ability to anticipate future staffing, capacity, and technical needs.
  • Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Equity opportunities, allowing employees to participate in the company's long-term growth.
  • Comprehensive health benefits.
  • Fully remote working environment, offering flexibility and location independence within the United States.
  • Employee perks and recognition programs.
  • Significant ownership and autonomy over engineering strategy, team development, and delivery.
  • Opportunity to shape the structure, growth, and future direction of an expanding engineering team.
  • Meaningful work contributing to improved access to digital dermatology services and science-backed skin treatments.
  • Collaborative environment focused on innovation, professional development, and measurable impact.
