Vector: Powering Auckland. Shaping the future.

At Vector, we're delivering the infrastructure, technology and services that will support a smarter, more connected and increasingly electrified Auckland.

Our Vector31 strategy sets a clear direction for the future. As we continue to evolve the way we serve customers, manage our network and enable business performance, Digital & Data plays a critical role in connecting strategy, technology and delivery.

To support this transformation, we're establishing a new Digital & Data operating model designed to strengthen business alignment, improve delivery outcomes and accelerate value creation across the organisation.

Technology Engineering plays a key role in bringing that vision to life. We build and support the applications, services and digital experiences that help our customers, employees and partners succeed.

That's where you come in.

The opportunity

You might currently be a Senior Full Stack Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Lead, Engineering Manager or an experienced developer who's enjoyed mentoring others and shaping how teams work.

What matters most is your ability to combine strong technical capability with a passion for helping people, improving engineering practices and delivering meaningful outcomes.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of engineering at Vector.

You'll work alongside engineers, architects, product teams, platform specialists and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure and well-designed digital solutions. You'll support a team of engineers, helping them grow their capability while creating an environment where quality, collaboration and continuous improvement are part of everyday work.

This role is as much about enabling others to do great work as it is about technical leadership.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting and developing a team of Full Stack Engineers and Technical Leads.

  • Helping create an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing engineering environment.

  • Working with Product, Architecture, Platform and Cyber teams to deliver secure, scalable and maintainable solutions.

  • Contributing to the design, development and support of applications, APIs, integrations and digital services.

  • Helping teams understand priorities, navigate dependencies and deliver value incrementally.

  • Promoting engineering practices that improve quality, reliability, security and maintainability.

  • Supporting continuous improvement across development, testing, deployment and operational support practices.

  • Using data and feedback to identify opportunities to improve services, customer experiences and engineering outcomes.

  • Working with partners and vendors to support successful delivery and operational outcomes.

  • Encouraging knowledge sharing, learning and technical growth across the engineering community.

What you'll bring

We're more interested in your capability and approach than whether you've followed a particular career path.

You'll bring:

  • Experience building and supporting digital products, applications or services in a modern technology environment.

  • A strong foundation in full stack engineering, including application development, APIs, integrations and cloud-based technologies.

  • Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting other engineers.

  • An interest in creating simple, sustainable and well-designed technical solutions.

  • A collaborative approach to problem solving and decision making.

  • An appreciation for balancing customer needs, technical quality and delivery outcomes.

  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to keep learning.

  • A commitment to building inclusive teams where people can contribute and grow.

Experience in engineering leadership, technology delivery, platform engineering or application development would be valuable, but we recognise that great candidates can come from many different backgrounds.

A little ambiguity doesn't scare you

We're evolving our Digital & Data operating model and continuing to build new capabilities across the organisation.

That means not everything is fully defined.

Some days you'll work within established practices. Other days you'll help shape how we do things in the future.

You'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, experiment, learn from others and help create better ways of working.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, supporting people to succeed and building technology that makes a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Bring what you know. Be ready to learn. Teach us something too.

Different skills. Different perspectives. Better ways forward, together.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of engineering within one of New Zealand's most important infrastructure organisations.

You'll work alongside talented people from a wide range of disciplines, contribute to meaningful and complex technology challenges, and help build products and services that support Auckland's future.

You'll also have access to:

  • Flexible ways of working.

  • Wellbeing support and employee benefits.

  • Learning and development opportunities.

  • Professional development support.

  • Opportunities to grow your career while contributing to work that has a positive impact on customers and communities.

We know that some people may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every single requirement. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply anyway - your skills, enthusiasm, and unique perspective could be just what we’re looking for.

Vector values diversity in all its forms and welcomes people of all backgrounds, experiences, identities and abilities to be part of our team.
