This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Group Underwriting Advisor based in Canada.

As a Business Group Underwriting Advisor, you will play a key role in managing financial risk and driving profitable long-term results across group insurance plans. Working within a new business team, you will assess and price both new and existing plans, balancing financial performance with client needs. You will collaborate closely with sales teams, internal specialists, and experienced underwriting professionals to develop competitive, tailored solutions. The role also involves supporting complex client implementations, negotiating contractual arrangements, and improving operational performance. You will have opportunities to share your expertise and mentor junior colleagues while contributing to a dynamic, collaborative environment. This is a full-time, fully remote position based in Quebec, Canada, serving clients across multiple provinces.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will oversee underwriting activities for large group insurance accounts, ensuring sound risk management and sustainable financial performance. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Establishing rates and financial retention levels for new and existing group insurance plans while meeting profitability targets.

    • Managing assigned accounts internally and proactively responding to client requests concerning pricing and benefit plan changes.

    • Preparing proposals and responding to requests for information, including developing tailored, value-added submissions using Loopio.

    • Coordinating complex client onboarding activities, including plan structures, applications, administrative requirements, and benefit design.

    • Negotiating contracts and financial agreements, including group insurance plan provisions and service and performance standards.

    • Identifying opportunities to improve operational performance and support long-term financial results.

    • Applying in-depth knowledge of different group insurance plans to assess their structure, requirements, and financial implications.

    • Collaborating with sales teams and internal stakeholders to develop effective solutions for clients.

    • Sharing underwriting expertise and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate combines group insurance underwriting expertise with strong financial judgment, analytical capabilities, and client relationship skills. You should be comfortable managing competing priorities, negotiating solutions, and communicating complex concepts clearly. The following qualifications are expected:

      • Previous experience in group insurance underwriting.

      • Strong knowledge of the group insurance market, products, and services.

      • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, including data manipulation and pivot tables, as well as proficiency in Word.

      • Post-secondary education and strong business, mathematical, and analytical capabilities.

      • Professional expertise in risk management.

      • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with and support sales teams.

      • Full professional fluency in both French and English, with the ability to serve clients in provinces outside Quebec.

      • Strong business acumen and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.

      • Strategic and creative thinking, with the ability to develop solutions tailored to specific client needs.

      • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and influencing skills.

      • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

      • Sound decision-making skills that balance risk management, financial discipline, and client needs.

      • Additional assets:

        • CEBS or GBA certification.

        • Experience supporting complex group insurance arrangements and client negotiations.

        • Benefits

          • Salary range: CAD $71,475–$119,125 per year.

          • Eligibility for incentive programs and performance-based compensation linked to individual and company results.

          • Fully remote working arrangement for candidates based in Quebec.

          • Flexible and customizable benefits packages, including medical, dental, vision, mental health, life, and short- and long-term disability coverage.

          • Additional coverage options, including accidental death and dismemberment, adoption, surrogacy, and non-emergency medical care.

          • Employee and family assistance programs.

          • Retirement savings options, including pension plans and an international employee share ownership program with employer matching contributions.

          • Financial education and advisory resources.

          • Paid time off, including public holidays, annual leave, personal days, sick leave, and statutory leave entitlements.

          • Learning and professional development opportunities.

          • A flexible, supportive, and inclusive working environment focused on employee well-being.

          • Opportunities to contribute to a global team and develop your career.
